Tehran-Shomal Freeway will be operational by 2010

He said that signing the contract with China has given the construction works a fresh impetus.

Referring to the construction phases of the freeway connecting the capital to the Caspian Sea littoral cities, the minister maintained that the first phase of the project would be finished within the next three years, adding that the first phase includes building the part of the freeway connecting the district of Kan in the western part of Tehran to the city of Shahrestanak, located in the northwest of the capital.

He commented that upon completion of the first phase of construction works, the current distance between Tehran and Chalus would be shortened by 60 kilometers, adding, “The finance contract to build Tehran-Shomal Freeway would annually save up to 20 million dollars worth of fuel.” The minister also noted that the project would be completed by 2010.

He further explained that the bids for construction of the second and third phases of the freeway would be correspondingly submitted in the current and next fiscal years.
